Passion. What is it? Why is this feeling important? How does it power our lives and the things we do everyday? What sort of emotions does it compell? Passion in the english dictionary is defined as; any powerful or compelling emotion, as love or hate. I personally feel that passion is not an emotion, when you speak of being passionate about something you speak of it as something you feel for deeply, you don't speak of it as an emotion say, if you were upset. Emotions do come from being passionate, but passion does not spring from emotion. Passion is important for us, we thrive to make differences in the world and passion gives us those opportunities. When you're passionate about something you'll want to do anything to get that something done, and done well. A simple example of passion could be a young musician. Imagine, a music student who has been practicing most of their life, they clearly feel passionately about what they do and they plan to go far with it, in order to succeed they will possess this feeling because no matter how many times they're told they can't do it, they'll push through until they do make it. Passion powers us everyday, we may not notice it but everything we do is done with a little bit of passion, otherwise nothing would ever get done. We can feel passionate about a variety of things, and when I say that everything is done with a little bit of passion I mean exactly that, we eat breakfast in the morning because we're hungry, now you may argue but I want to say our bodies feel passionately about food, another example; we do the laundry because it's not sanitary not to, and we feel passionate about being clean. What emotions do string from being passionate? There are many, many answers to that, depending on the outcome of your goal you could feel happiness, if you succeed; which you normally do when you feel passionately enough, you will be a happy person, you'll feel accomplished because you got done what you wanted done, intelligent; like you knew all about your goal, you knew exactly how to succeed. However, if you are not truly passionate, you probably will not complete your goals, you may feel upset, or un-prepared. During class today, our teacher introduced us to a project called; the passion project. We are required to discover our own personal passion and build upon it. Each month we'll work toward one goal that we want to complete based on our passion. Specifically though, today we were only asked to figure out what we were passionate about which is why I did more research on passion and it's importance on my own time. I have decided that a few things I feel quite passionately about are; the ideas that extroverted people are the preferred types of people, the arts are not being represented enough in our communities, and the environment, recycling, tree planting, etc. What do you think you're passionate about?
