The passion project, if you're reading my blog and have no clue what this is, is a class assignment that we have been working on for the past few weeks. We were assigned this project and asked to find the one thing that makes us come alive, the thing that we were most passionate about and to research it, and find some way to present that research to everybody else.
When we were first given this assignment my initial thought was to go about finding my hobbies and interests so that I could choose from those the one thing that I thought I was passionate about. Honestly here, I went through four or five different interests before I came up with something that I though I could actually use for this project. The first hobby I attempted to turn into my passion project was photography. This was way back in the beginning when I was still working in a pair for this project, I had decided that I wanted to take my interest in photography and turn it into a blog where I would go around the small townships around Cambridge and I'd take photos of historical landmarks, then I would research information on those things and write blogs about the good and the history behind them. That idea failed horribly, I was originally working in a pair, but we went our separate ways and I ended up scrapping that because I didn't believe that I could get all of the writing and researching done myself.
The second thing I tried was cooking and exercising, being healthy and active. I had come up with this idea after having gone for my morning 5k run not too long ago. I decided that because I lived a healthy lifestyle, that I found time to exercise, and cook nutritious meals, that I would be able to write about my experiences, how I got up every morning to go for a run before school, how I managed to balance eating, homework, exercising. I thought that I could make a difference in the way that specifically students spent their time, letting them know that they needed to push their hardest, that they could find time to eat breakfast, and two other meals a day, that they were able to get a little bit of exercise in and still have time for school. However, I also gave up on that idea after I created the website because I didn't feel like I actually wanted to do that. I knew I wasn't completely passionate about it, and I wouldn't be able to keep up on the blogging because I had almost no motivation.
Then after all pf this, plus a couple other failures I found a shirt that I had gotten from the University of Guelph a few years ago, the shirt said, "Ontario Veterinary College" on it, and then I thought about the one thing I loved the most... Animals! How I really would love to become a veterinarian and how whenever something comes up that I am able to experience that; working with animals, I grab it as quick as possible. I had finally decided that I would like to find ways to help out the animals in my community, I would create a website that I could blog on and I would find volunteering opportunities at veterinary clinics and humane societies in Cambridge, where they would allow me to experience taking care of the pets. I would also like to blog about my own animals, what I do for them, why I love my animals. Once I find some opportunities I will begin to blog frequently and as for now I will research and find tips and tricks to animal care, etc. to post about.
So far I have to say that the passion project is probably one of the more difficult things that I have had to start this semester, because we were given somewhat vague instructions; we really had to do a lot on our own. The project has gotten me thinking quite a bit, teaching me that I can't just choose one thing and then thinking that it's going to be easy and that everything will work out well; I've learned that I need to attempt a variety of different things before coming to a conclusion. I do enjoy this project, I really feel like I will be able to keep up with my new website, and I hope that I can find some volunteering opportunities to write about. I have nothing to complain about, this project has been going just the way it was expected to for me.
